#AnneReadAlong2017 : The End of Anne Giveaway
#AnneReadAlong2017 / January 10, 2018

It’s hard to believe 8 months have long since passed. Back in May, Jane @ Greenish Bookshelf and I committed to hosting an Anne of Green Gables series read-along. It’s been so much fun! I’ve loved reading such a well-loved, yet unknown to me, series all the way through. I’ve met so many amazing people, too! This journey has been an incredible ride. It’s been wonderful to see everyone’s passion, love, and interest in not only Anne Shirley but also L.M Montgomery. December should have been the proper wrap-up, but life got in the way and I still have to finish Rilla of Ingleside (I’m LOVING it this far!). While I might be a month behind, I want to thank everyone who has stuck with us this long. This means we’re hosting an END OF ANNE GIVEAWAY!!! End of Anne Giveaway This giveaway will be U.S. and Canada only** and will include the following items: A Litographs Anne of Green Gables tote water-resistant 17″ x 14.75″ tote bag One 8×10 Anne of Green Gables print from CarrotTopPaperShop featuring the quote “Isn’t it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet?” from Anne of Green Gables Anne of Green…

Top Ten Tuesday: Top 10 New-To-Me Authors I Read in 2017
Top Ten Tuesday / January 2, 2018

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week the theme is: Top 10 New-To-Me Authors I Read in 2017 One of the things I love most about the Top Ten Tuesday lists is that they challenge me to review my reading in a different light. I don’t consistently participate in these because, honestly, they can be really time-consuming posts and I might not be interested in the prompt. But each time I do participate I love what I learn about myself. The neat thing about the timing for this TTT is how it will tie into my 2018 reading goals. I have a feeling that once I get this list done I’ll have an updated idea of what my new favorite authors/genres are, which will inspire reading for 2018. So, without further ado… All author names below are links to their Goodreads author pages.   Top 10 New-To-Me Authors I Read in 2017   Daphne du Maurier Reading Rebecca was a surprise for me– I didn’t expect I’d like this novel! Normally, I shy away from gothic books and thrillers. I’m so glad I didn’t shy away here. I fell in love with this writing…

There’s always an adventure brewing in the sun-dappled world of Rainbow Valley. (via Goodreads) Goodreads Amazon   As you might have noticed, I’m a bit behind on my #AnneReadAlong2017 reading! Life has a way of changing our free time and priorities sometimes, doesn’t it? In this particular case, while I found Rainbow Valley endearing and adorable, it was a really slow read for me. I found…

#AnneReadAlong2017 : Top 5 Things I Learned Reading Anne of Green Gables
#AnneReadAlong2017 , List / December 22, 2017

I am ashamed at how absent I’ve been with blogging and reading lately. I am a book behind with our read along (but almost done! Review to come ASAP!)– a horrible shame as I am co-hosting with Jane @ Greenish Bookshelf. But, as we learned from Anne, life can be unpredictable sometimes. More on that in a future post– let’s focus on Anne! Now that we’re wrapping up our read along with Rilla of Ingleside and Anne is fading into the background of her children’s lives, it’s time to focus on all the great things Anne has taught us. Each chapter of every book comes with a wonderful life lesson. But what are the lasting ones I will walk away with? It was challenging to select only 5 lessons, but they are some of my favorites. Feel free to join in our Top 5 List posts and link up below. Our schedule is merely recommended– you’re welcome to join in whatever you’d like whenever you’d like! And without further ado… Top 5 Things I Learned Reading Anne of Green Gables   1 – Appreciate the world around you.  I find the way Anne Shirley finds beauty in the world absolutely charming. She is completely…

#AnneReadAlong2017 : 5 Favorite Anne of Green Gables Characters
#AnneReadAlong2017 , List / October 27, 2017

As we are closing in on the conclusion of our read along (can you believe there are only two books left?!), it’s obvious Anne of Green Gables contains quite an amazing cast of characters. Sadly, but reflective of real life, these characters come and go from Anne Shirley Blythe’s life. Despite their waxing and waning that doesn’t mean they need to go far from our hearts! This month,  Jane @ Greenish Bookshelf and I encourage you to join us as we reflect on our favorite characters from the Anne of Green Gables series. Feel free to join in our Top 5 List posts and link up below. Our schedule is merely recommended– you’re welcome to join in whatever you’d like whenever you’d like! And without further ado… Top 5 Favorite Anne of Green Gables Characters   1 – Miss Lavendar Miss Lavendar Lewis is certainly one of Anne Shirley’s Kindred Spirits. The whole tale of Miss Lavendar is nestled deeply into my heart. She lost her one true love and grew old, but refused to let life get her down. She still made the most of her life— keeping Charlotta the Fourth around for company, using her active imagination, and focusing on what brings her joy. Lavendar’s story,…

#AnneReadAlong2017 : A Biography of L. M. Montgomery
#AnneReadAlong2017 , Author Spotlight / October 8, 2017

At this point, we’re just a bit past halfway for #AnneReadAlong2017 !!! Halfway?! That’s craziness. For those of you not following along at home (which, honestly, you all should be. This has been amazing!), Jane @ Greenish Bookshelf and I have been hosting an Anne of Green Gables Read Along. You can learn more about it here. But reaching the halfway point, I realized that we haven’t spent any time talking about the woman behind the book: L.M. Montgomery herself. That seems like a horrendous oversight! So grab a mug of something delicious and follow along as we learn more about L.M. Montgomery’s life and the origin of Anne Shirley. Lucy Maud Montgomery was born on Prince Edward Island, Canada on November 30th, 1874. Her mother died of tuberculosis when she was only 21 months old, and while she still lived with her father for a while, young Montgomery was under the custody of her maternal grandparents. Sadly, her childhood was spent mostly with her strict grandparents and her imaginary friends. There were few children around for Montgomery to socialize with. This period of her life was essential for developing her creativity. It’s obvious that Montgomery’s childhood served as…

#AnneReadAlong2017 : 5 Things I Wish I Could Change About the Anne Series
#AnneReadAlong2017 , List / September 29, 2017

I have come to ADORE Anne Shirley and the Anne of Green Gables books. Yet, as uplifting and wonderful as these tales are, nothing is ever perfect.  Jane @ Greenish Bookshelf and I have taken some time this week to reflect on how we might improve upon the Anne of Green Gables series– specifically, what we would love to change about these books. Montgomery creates a beautiful world for Anne to grow up in, but there are a few things which don’t sit well with me, as you’ll see below. Feel free to join in our Top 5 List posts and link up below. Our schedule is merely recommended– you’re welcome to join in whatever you’d like whenever you’d like! And without further ado…   Top 5 Things I Wish I Could Change About the Anne Series   1 – Diana Barry’s obsession with her weight Diana Barry is never really described in a fashion which would imply she is overweight. Yet, starting in Anne of Avonlea, Diana begins to lament over how large she has grown. This continues throughout the rest of the series, too! She never gets over it, even when Anne tells her everything is okay and Diana is beautiful. I understand that this book series…
