Bout of Books 18 Recaps Days 4-6

January 8, 2017

Well. That didn’t go completely as planned, but when does life every follow the straight and narrow? bout-of-books-18

Let’s get the bad confessions out of the way: I obviously missed some things through social media and blogging the past few days. This is why I don’t post daily, people! I’ve learned that in the future, I should give myself some more flexibility with my social interactions in readathons. Twitter only? Sure. I can do that in the future. Something like that.

The good is that while I haven’t been updating the last few days, I did get a ton of reading in! Let’s check in:

January 5th through 7th – Days 4-6 Review

Books Read: Mom & Me & Mom by Maya Angelou, Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor, Dark Matter by Blake Crouch, The Sleeper and the Spindle by Neil Gaiman

Completed Books: Mom & Me & Mom by Maya Angelou, Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor

Goal Updates (6/10):

  • I will read for at least 60 minutes each day, including at least 4 straight hours on at least one day.
    • 4 hours straight were accomplished on Day 1! Thanks, bank holidays! I also think I will get 4 more hours in tomorrow. Absolute insanity.
  • I will finish a book which I am currently reading.
    • Gilded Cage was not intended for this goal, but I did start it before the readathon and finish it on day 1! I’m still hoping that I can get through a book for work… But I don’t feel that inspired.
  • I will read one book from start to finish.
    • WOOHOO! I read both Akata Witch and Mom & Me & Mom from start to finish during this challenge. Crushed it.
  • I will participate actively on Twitter and on my blog.
    • Oh, yeah. I completely failed on this. Next time? Only Twitter.

Bout of Books Daily Challenge, Day 4: Book Spine Poetry: A perennial favorite is back! Go hunting through your books and unleash your inner poet! Use the titles of your chosen books to create a poem. Snap a picture of your creation and share it with the hashtags #BookSpinePoetryBoB and #boutofbooks.

My Kindle means no photo, but: Creating a Cage, Mom & Me Photograph the Bear and the Nightingale.

I was originally going to read The Bear and the Nightingale once I finished Mom & Me & Mom, but Dark Matter came in from the library and I need to read it for a book club. Sorry, The BEar and the Nightingale! So, if I was going to revise my poem now, I think it would be:

Creating a Cage, Mom & Me Photograph the Witch, The Sleeper, and the Spindle.

<shrugs> Not too bad, considering. 🙂

Bout of Books Daily Challenge, Day 5: If You Like This, Try This:  Since we all love recommending books, here’s your chance to share the love.
Example: If you like paranormal romance with bloodthirsty Vikings, try Shelly Laurenston’s Call of Crows series.
Make sure you use the hashtags #BoBIfYouLikeThis and #boutofbooks on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook, so we can see your recs.

fangirlcarry-onIf you like character development and relationships, check out Rainbow Rowell’s books! She is my favorite author at the moment. There is no other author I know who can turn people’s mundane lives into fascinating narratives. I love the way she writes and how she develops characters. Brilliant. Oh! If you like books within books on top of this, check out Fangirl coupled with Carry On. In that order. Trust me. heroes-of-olympus

If you like mythology and adventure, check our Rick Riordan’s books. Yes, all of them. But the second Percy Jackson series, The Heroes of Olympus is my absolute favorite. (Honestly, I haven’t read the Egyptian series because people have discouraged me from reading it. So, maybe not that one. but the rest for sure.)

Upcoming Final Day Goals

Sunday is a fairly low-key day for me. I really hope that I can get through Dark Matter. It’s really intriguing thus far, and I am very curious to see where it takes me.
